In today’s world it is hard to go place from place without noticing the impact technology has had. Technology has managed to integrate itself into our day to day lives. Technology is no longer just a tool used to complete tasks, it is an extension of ourselves now. I value what technology can bring to the classroom and utilize it as much as possible. It is my job as a teacher to integrate technology into my classroom in a meaningful way to create students, who have the skills to one day be global citizens.

               One example of how I use technology to help my students appropriately aid task completion, inquiry and learning is by allowing them to conduct their own research projects. My students have conducted numerous research reports. They utilize search engines to help them ask more questions and answer some questions they have. My students love to utilize both laptops and iPad’s when conducting this research. It is amazing to see how they navigate through search engines like, Britannica. Students watch videos, look at pictures, and read articles that are adjusted to their reading level. This helps them become a globalized citizen because they are familiar with research techniques need to participate with and learn about the world around them.

               An example of how I demonstrate my own knowledge of technology and using it to convey and find information to my students is by using a smart or promethean board. These boards allow for an interactive learning experience to occur. I have made flipcharts are interactive graphic organizers to help aid classroom discussion. I also use it to show the student math journal, so we can work on it together in small groups. This increases student motivation for working in their book because, they like to use the interactive smart board. I try and integrate technology into all lessons since it is vital that our students are fluent in the use of technology in today’s world. Overall technology has helped improve many of my lessons. My favorite improvement has been the use of CultureGrams in our morning meetings. This site allows students to look at the world, then a continent, then a specific country. When the students look at the country it gives many facts about the country along with the countries flag, the language spoken and some information on the population of the country. Overall this program has helped my students learn about the world around them in a way that they are able to find meaningful.

               Furthermore, the use of technology is essential for the growth and development of modern students. It is important they are fluent in the skills they need to be a globalized citizen. These skills will aid students learning outcomes for years to come which is why I will always advocate for technology use within the classroom.
